DARKNESS INTO LIGHT EVENT TO START IN MAGHERY IN MAY

first_imgThe Darkness into Light event is a worldwide suicide and self-harm awareness event and fundraiser held to support Pieta House Crisis Centre. Specifically, the event is a public 5K charity walk beginning 4:15am and ending at approximately 5:30am – 5:45am on Saturday 9th May 2015 in Maghery, County Donegal, with all proceeds going to Pieta House.Participating locations span across the globe; from Phoenix Park, Dublin, to Sydney, Australia. The concept of walking together as a group from the darkness of night time to the breaking of daylight symbolises the journey many people experience when they suffer from poor mental health. This event is held in Maghery village on the coast of the North Atlantic, which is sure to contribute to the character of this special event. In previous years the closest Darkness into Light event for people in the Rosses has been Letterkenny, but with the establishment of the event more locally, people do not face the risks associated with travelling to and from the event so late / early in the morning.“We encourage those from beyond the upper and lower Rosses – where it might be both safer and more feasible – to attend the Maghery event. We really appreciate your support with this very important fundraising event for mental health. Testimonials from people who have participated in the event in previous years report that the event is special in many ways.“Therefore, we hope this event will be no different and we look forward to helping to start the conversation and raise awareness about mental health locally,” said a spokesman. Please Like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dilmaghery to keep up to date with details and plans for the event, the 5K route, or to make general inquiries.
